New This Fall: The Sensory Lab & More

Over the past several months, I’ve been making some changes to my website as my work continues to evolve. If you haven’t visited in a while, you’ll find a few new places to explore.
The biggest addition is The Sensory Lab—a space for curiosity, experimentation, and ideas in progress. It brings together some of the projects and questions I’ve been exploring around attention, perception, embodied awareness, our relationship with the environment, and the ways we receive information from both our inner and outer worlds.
Inside the Lab, you’ll find Sensory Pauses, brief invitations to stop and notice; Field Notes, where I write about observations and encounters that emerge from this work; and a growing collection of Projects, past and present, including The Sanctuary, Mobile Sanctuary, The Face Cloud™, and other experiments still taking shape.
I’ve also reorganized the Books & Writing section of the site. My books now live alongside Selected Essays, News & Updates, and Robin’s Bookshelf, a collection of books, articles, research, and other resources that have informed or inspired my work.
🍂 A New Essay for Fall - Following Yellow
Yesterday morning, I stepped through the old gate behind our house and found myself following yellow.
What began with crownbeard, goldenrod, horsenettle berries, and straw-yellow hay bales became an experiment in attention—and in noticing seasonal time through the landscape rather than the calendar.
Here in central North Carolina, the calendar says autumn. The landscape seems to be saying: Not yet.
Tomorrow, I’m heading north to Vermont, and I’ve decided to take the experiment with me. What is yellow doing there? Has autumn arrived farther north? What happens when the landscape changes but the question stays the same?
And if you'd rather simply pause and look, I’ve also added a new Visual Sensory Pause: a slow pan from the hay bales to a field of crownbeard.
𑁍 Follow The Sensory Lab
If you’d like to receive future essays, Field Notes, Sensory Lab experiments, and occasional updates as this work develops, I’ve added a new way to subscribe.
You can also find the subscription link anytime at the top of The Sensory Lab page.
🍁 One Last Note
I’ll be away from the office during my usual work week, October 2–5, and will begin seeing clients again on Friday, October 9.
In the meantime, I’ll be looking for yellow.
I don’t know what I’ll find in Vermont yet—which, of course, is the point. Part II of Following Yellow will continue from there.
Until next time...
Robin
